God's Global Barnyard Update!
"More than 800 million people -- that's 1 in 8 people in our world today -- are hungry."
At Edina Community Lutheran Church (ECLC) we believe that we are freed in Christ to love and serve our neighbor. Living gratefully and generously begins with the full participation of children, and continues through every age and stage of life. God's Global Barnyard, part of ELCA's Good Gifts and ELCA World Hunger, is our heartfelt response to every person on the planet's need for food.
- 868 million people -- that's 1 in 8 -- are chronically hungry and cannot lead active daily lives.
- 1.2 billion people live in extreme poverty, living on less thatn $1.25 per day.
- In the United States, more than 50 million people do not know where their next meal will come from.
- 46.2 million Americans are living in poverty.
In response, ECLC Kids have brought a weekly offering to buy animals for God's Global Barnyard. Our goal was to collect $500 by the end of 2014. I'm excited to announce that with your help we collected $640 in offerings!
In 2013-2014 we collected enough to buy:
- 1 sheep for $120
- 1 share of a cow for $50
- 14 pigs for $420
- 5 chickens for $50
"Your gift carries
God's love to others,
making a difference
in their lives and in the world.
Your donations support
that ensure that these
good gifts last for more than a
couple of days or weeks.
They keep on giving
for years to come."
This week ECLC Kids will have the opportunity to set our next goal, and vote where we'd like to see our offerings go for the second half of the 2014-15 school year. If you have suggestions, please send them my way by the end of the day Saturday.
