July: Taking Heart In 2005 the Minnesota Council of Churches began a program called “Taking Heart” to bring Christians and Muslims together, to get to know each other over a meal and conversation. On Thursday, July 9 at 8pm, WIT women will participate in the ceremony Iftar (the breaking of the fast at sundown) with the Masjid Al Rahman community at the Islamic Center in Bloomington. August: Being Mortal WIT will meet August 11, 7-9 pm at Judy’s house and discuss the book “Being Mortal: Medicine and What Matters at the End” by Atul Gawande.
REBUILD THE CHURCHES FUND – FINAL WEEK: Sunday, July 12 will be the last day we are collecting donations for the “Rebuild the Churches” Fund to help the congregations of the black churches burned by arsonists. Christ Church Cathedral in St. Louis is coordinating the Rebuild the Churches Fund to unite people of all faiths in standing with their sisters and brothers to help rebuild these buildings –which are not just houses of worship but centers of ministry for their communities. Please make your checks out to ECLC and place funds in the specially marked envelopes, “Rebuild the Churches Fund,” including your name. ECLC will send one check to represent our solidarity. You can also contribute online at www.eclc.org. Please designate your gift by including “Rebuild the Churches Fund” in the “Other Donations” field.

LOAVES & FISHES VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: Volunteers are needed to prepare the meal (1:30-3:00pm) or serve the meal (5:00-7:00) on Tuesday, July 21st at Holy Rosary (2448 18th Ave S. Mpls). JOIN ECLC QUILTERS Summer is here but the ECLC quilters keep at the task of making quilts for Lutheran World Relief and local refugee organizations. Are you looking for a way to be active in an ECLC mission this summer? Join the quilters for a brown bag lunch at noon followed by layering and tying of quilts starting at 1:00 pm on these Fridays: July 10, July 24, August 7 and August 21. No previous quilting experience is required.
