"THERE IS ONLY US" Rally--Say NO to PolyMet and Toxic Copper Mining in Minnesota-- SATURDAY, JUNE 17, 10:30AM-12:00PM, MN State Capitol Rotunda. PolyMet Mining has proposed an open-pit mine near Hoyt Lakes, in a watershed that drains toward Lake Superior and the Boundary Waters. Last year the National Forest Service blocked Twin Metals Minnesota from proceeding with toxic nickel-copper mining near the boundary waters. This year, the Minnesota DNR is considering approving Polymet's proposal. The primary concern is that copper is found in rock with high sulfur levels. When exposed to air and water during mining, this sulfuric rockreleases acidic runoff that creates high levels of heavy metals in waterways. Contact Cheryl P. if you're interested in carpooling.
PIECE IN OUR TIME Please join Ruth in celebrating the opening of Piece In Our Time, a community art studio and gathering space located on the north side of Minneapolis. Open House will be held on June 25 from 1:00 - 3:30, with a house blessing at 1:30. Contact Ruth E. to RSVP
