FAMILIES IN WORSHIP

Worship is an ever-changing and growing experience. Connected with and central to everything we do, worship unites every generation - including children and youth - in celebration, engages us in thoughtful dialogue, and helps us grow in faith. It grounds us in our Christian and Lutheran roots, while demonstrating practical relevance for today's world.

At ECLC we value the unique opportunity of congregational worship in today's world: It is here we encounter God in community with every living generation, participating in all of the promises made at baptism. The sights and sounds of worship are good and nurturing, even when we don't understand them. Being in worship all ages grow to know we belong here, and stand in the midst of the church with a faith all our own.

SOME OF THE MANY WAYS FAMILIES PARTICIPATE IN WORSHIP AT ECLC:

  • Story  Children are invited to participate in a children's sermon at every worship service.
  • Singing  Young children are free to sing and dance, and make music.
  • Praying  Children can learn the Lord's Prayer and Apostles' Creed.
  • Word  Children can listen and follow along with the readings and the gospel story.
  • Communion  Children are welcome to the table, without exception.
  • Baptisms  Children are encouraged to come to the font during all baptisms.
  • Offering  The children's offering is given to organizations that make sense to them.
  • Readings  Children in grades 3 and up can read the lessons of the day.
  • Serving  Older children in grades 4 - 8 are trained and commissioned as acolytes.
  • Sharing  Children of all ages are welcome to share vocal and instrumental pieces.
  • Leading  High School youth plan and lead worship each year on Youth Sunday.
  • Creating  Children help create sacred space with visual art that tells the gospel story.
