Building Design Committee (BDC) Update

It's time for your letters and your voices!  Now is the time, especially if you live or work in Edina, to send a letter or an email to the Edina Planning Commission in support of our building project. Be sure to include your address. Next Wednesday, July 22, 7 pm, the Edina Planning Commission will vote on whether to recommend that the City Council grant ECLC a Conditional Use Permit (CUP) to add onto our building. (We need a CUP because our site is in an area zoned as residential.) Letters left in the church office by noon on Friday will be included in the packet for the commissioners. Those received next week will be distributed to the commissioners at the hearing. The public can attend and speak in support of or in opposition to the CUP. 

Benefits of our addition and renovation include:

  • Improving function to better serve the congregation, neighborhood and larger community.
  • Making the building safer, more accessible and more energy efficient.
  • Providing stormwater management
  • Improving aesthetics

Minnehaha Creek Watershed District (MCWD) Hearing on Thursday, July 30. Given our site location, we also need a permit from the MCWD for our project.

City Council Hearing  Several weeks after the Planning Commission hearing, we will be scheduled for a hearing with the Edina City Council which will vote on whether to grant us the CUP. Construction drawings will be completed once we know we have a CUP.

Congregational Vote this Fall  Watson-Forsberg, our construction firm, will prepare a bid for the project based on the construction drawings. Once we have the bid there will be a congregational meeting to vote on whether to accept it and proceed with construction.
