While our TV and newspaper reports share only the violence that pervades the young people of El Salvador, our dear friends at Cristo de Paz have another story to share: one of perseverance, one of transformation, and one of hope. Cristo de Paz has purchased land!
In 2012, ECLC boldly committed a portion of our building capital appeal funds to support the ministry of Cristo de Paz. Through thoughtful deliberation and conversation, they shared their hope for their own permanent space to solidify their legitimacy in the community…and provide a much needed safe haven for children and youth after the short school day ends.
In late 2015, ECLC sent $4500 to the Lutheran Church of El Salvador for a down payment and fees for the perfect piece of land: adjacent to Cristo de Paz’s current rental property! This April, Cristo de Paz received a “certificate of promise of ownership” and ECLC responded with the remaining $3000 to fully purchase the land. We will continue to be in conversation with Cristo de Paz as they determine construction and programming costs.
As we continue to develop our property to expand our ministries, please remember our brothers and sisters in El Salvador in prayer as they, too, begin to envision the construction of a space to worship, build community, and provide after school social services for all of the children in the community! We are in construction together---and God is creating something beautiful in it!
