Holy Week At ECLC

We prepare for our observance of the passion of Jesus this Sunday (April 9th) with the Procession of Palms and Hosannas and the reading of the Passion Story at 8:30 and 11:00 a.m.  Between services there will be crafts and activities for all ages – including the folding and weaving of palms to keep as a reminder of Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem.

The Triduum – the Great Three Days

During the week between Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday we observe the passion of Jesus. Holy Week begins on Thursday (April 13th) as we gather for the Triduum – the Great Three Days.

Maundy Thursday: The season of Lent ends with an individual absolution and we are given the great commandment to love one another (Maundy is Latin for commandment). (The 5:45 p.m. service invites children to participate in foot washing – a sign of Jesus service and love for us). At both services the sanctuary is then emptied as we remember that his love leads to the cross.

Good Friday: Through scripture and music, we hear the story of Jesus’ death and venerate the cross which is life for us. At the 5:45 p.m. service, the children will lead us in the stations of the cross.

Easter Vigil: The Sunday School children share with us great interactive stories of scripture as part of the service. There will be an Easter Vigil reception immediately following the service and we will hear the story of salvation, celebrate baptism and celebrate Holy Communion in a space that is refilled with light and color, sound and the smell of flowers.

Easter Sunday: We begin the 50 days of Easter as we celebrate the Resurrection and new creation with identical worship services.

These days are the true heart of Christianity. Please join us.
