ECLC Hosts Lutheran Bishop from the Holy Land

We are pleased to welcome Rev. Munib A. Younan to ECLC on Sunday, March 4th. Younan served as Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land (ELCJH), a Lutheran denomination that has congregations in Israel, Jordan and State of Palestine. He has also served as President of the Lutheran World Federation (2010-2017). ECLC is one of a handful of ELCA colleges, universities, and congregations selected for a visit from Bishop Younan.

Through his books, articles, presentations and sermons, Bishop Munib Younan has been a lifelong leader of interfaith dialogue and a vocal proponent for nonviolence based on justice, inclusion and forgiveness. Younan, who was born in 1950 in Jerusalem to parents who were Palestinian refugees, won the Niwano Peace Prize in July for his work fostering dialogue between Christians, Jews, and Muslims since the 1990s. He will discuss his experiences as a Palestinian Christian and Lutheran leader, living out his faith in a notoriously challenging and volatile region of the world where issues of faith are ever-present and inextricably interwoven with the complex political environment.

In addition to preaching in worship at 8:30 and 11:00 a.m., Bishop Younan will share his perspectives on peace and reconciliation during the Forum between services. Please join us!
