High School youth Annual Pilgrimmage

The climax of each year for the high school youth at ECLC is the annual summer Pilgrimage. It is an experience of communal living and travel, pushing ourselves outside of our comfort zones. Youth participate in theological reflection and social analysis before, during, and after each trip. Students will share their experiences with the congregation upon their return. Follow our High School youth on their 2017 Pilgrimage to El Salvador from July 10-17. Follow this link and you’ll be able to follow us day-by-day with our itinerary along with the questions and themes we’ll be carrying with us. Join us as we commission them at the 10am worship service on July 9.

Summer Collaborative Internship and ACYTI

Congratulations to our ACYTI Scholars and SCI Interns this summer: Greyson M. and Dylan B. You’re probably wondering what in the world ACYTI and SCI are!

ACYTI stands for Augsburg College Youth Theology Institute. ACYTI is a rare opportunity for youth grades 9-12 to ask hard questions about God and our world alongside professors esteemed in their field. I have worked with all three of this year’s ACYTI faculty and I can attest to the value of their teaching and writing: Dr. Tim Pippert of Sociology at Augsburg, Dr. Mary Lowe of Systematic Theology at Augsburg, and Dr. Eric Barreto of New Testament at Princeton. This year’s theme is “God’s Mosaic: Diversity as Good News.” The week-long program consists of a combination of worship, classroom time, diverse community-based experiences, and intentional small group conversations. Every day begins and ends with Christian worship, led in a variety of forms.

SCI stands for Summer Collaborative Internship. SCI is directly connected with this summer’s Urban VBS: a collaborative experience between ECLC, Redeemer Lutheran Church, Messiah Lutheran Church, and Augsburg College. Urban VBS is an overnight camp like experience for middle-school aged youth. As a Summer Collaborative Intern they will be a vital leader at Urban VBS. The reflection and skills learned at ACYTI are applied at Urban VBS as they lead middle-schoolers through this two day experience. The greatest value of Urban VBS is the coming-together of youth from three congregations of different contexts. Whether you live closer to North Minneapolis or Edina, they will be brought into relationship with children, youth, and adults from a variety of social contexts. True justice starts with solidarity, and true solidarity begins with friendships. Urban VBS is the place where those friendships are formed.

AND if you’ve completed grades 4-8 you gotta register to participate in Urban VBS. It’ll be a blast! Registration forms are in the kiosk by the front entrance. August 12-13 at Augsburg College. Give your registration form to Kelly Rowley by July 20th!

Congratulations Grey and Dylan!
