THIS SUNDAY’S FORUM: Pastor Babette Chatman, from Redeemer Lutheran Church, invites you to join in the dialogue about the justice work of racial reconciliation. Pastor Chatman will also preach at both worship services. Come and join other ECLCers as we learn and grow together.

ACOLYTE FAITH MILESTONE FOR 4TH GRADE FAMILIES! This Sunday, October 7th is a milestone day for ECLC 4th graders, who will be trained as acolytes together with their 5th grade friends (who will have “refresher” training), during the education hour from 9:45-10:45 am in the SANCTUARY. Fourth graders will also be commissioned in worship at either 8:30 or 11:00 a.m. We ask that one parent attend with each student.

GUN VIOLENCE PREVENTION RALLY THIS SATURDAY: Join ECLC’s mission partner, Protect Minnesota, to raise your void for gun violence rally this Saturday from 1-4pm in Excelsior.

GUEST MUSICIAN WANDA BATTLE On Sunday, October 14th our special musician will be Wanda Battle. Wanda is a gospel singer and also the tour guide at Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama. She will lead us in freedom songs from the civil rights era and sing with the band for our Blues/Gospel liturgy. On Saturday, October 13th all are invited to church at 7:00 pm for a rehearsal with Wanda to learn the songs that we’ll sing on Sunday.

ALL SAINTS DAY WORSHIP SERVICE: On Thursday, November 1st at 6:30pm, gather to remember, grieve our losses, and give thanks to God for those we’ve loved. A simple meal will be offered at 6pm.

BOOK DISCUSSION OF EVERYTHING HAPPENS FOR A REASON: AND OTHER LIES I'VE LOVED In August, many ECLCers - including Pastor Stephanie - read and discussed Everything Happens for a Reason: And Other Lies I've Loved. This memoir, written by Duke religion professor Kate Bowler, explores Bowler's life, faith, and perspective after she receives a stage IV cancer diagnosis. As our beloved community grieves the loss of Pastor Stephanie, you are invited to read and then discuss this powerful book on Thursday, November 1st at 7:30 p.m. at ECLC. LUTHERAN SOCIAL SERVICES’ ANNUAL CHILDREN’S CLOTHING DONATIONS.
We are collecting children / youth clothing again this year for LSS children’s clothing 25 cent sale. Drop off donations through Monday, October 15th at the Sign Up Center: Gently used children’s and youth clothing, shoes, winter outerwear, and boots (newborn to high school sizes. New underwear and socks (we cannot accept any used items in this category). Also volunteers are needed to set-up and run the sale on Friday the 19th anytime between 10-3:30 or Saturday the 20th from 8:00-11:30 or 11:00-3pm at the Center for Changing Lives, 2400 Park Ave S., Mpls. ST OLAF CHRISTMAS FESTIVAL: Sharing music can be a healing experience in a difficult time, especially in the darkness of Advent while we wait for the light. Lauren will purchase group tickets for ECLCers and friends for St. Olaf’s Christmas Festival on Thursday, November 29th at 7:30pm at St. Olaf in Northfield. If you’ve never experienced Christmas festival, a choral & orchestral worship experience, come experience it among friends. Tesfa Wondemagegnehu, whose Justice Choir visited ECLC this past summer, is the new conductor of two of St. Olaf’s choirs! Discount tickets are $32 and will be ordered on Monday, October 22nd.
