Friends, I am delighted to be part of the ministry team at ECLC.  In the past, my wife, Kris, and I have worshipped with you on several occasions.  We live in Andover, near to our three adult children and six grandchildren.  We are drawn to the careful attention ECLC gives to inclusive welcome, creative worship, and the bold witness of the Gospel to the places in this world where justice and peace stand opposed to power and privilege.
I come to ECLC from three consecutive interim calls.  Prior to that I worked with the ELCA church wide offices, helping to oversee our campus ministries across the country.  For the most part I am a career campus pastor, having come to the University of Minnesota in 1990, with prior campus calls in Michigan, South Dakota, Pennsylvania, Miami and Iowa.  For however long I am with you as interim pastor, I hope to get to know you quickly and respond to any pastoral needs you might care to share with me.  Thank you for the invitation to serve among you.

FROM THE STAFF:  AN ECLC STATEMENT  In response to God’s diverse act of creation and Jesus’ inclusive model, Edina Community Lutheran has publicly affirmed members of all sexual orientations and gender identities for decades.  When voices of hatred and bigotry are given a microphone, we, too, are compelled to speak loudly:  All are welcome here. We especially give thanks for the gifts our LGBTQ members and neighbors bring to this community and we stand in solidarity with all who are threatened.  As God does, we celebrate who God created you to be!

This fall ECLC will begin a new ministry of lay pastoral care. All of us, at times, are on a difficult journey and need a caring, companion who will listen, empathize and be a reminder of a caring community Are you a good listener? Do you have a few hours each month to visit members as a trained, listening presence? Befrienders Ministry is just that. The foundational principles of Befriender Ministry are: (1) God is Present (2) Caring, not Curing (3) Non-judgmental Presence (4) Active Listening.

An informational meeting will be held on Tuesday evening, September 26 at 6:00 at the church. If you are interested in learning whether this might be a good fit for your gifts, please come! Pastor Stephanie, Kevin Frolen and Kathy Magnus have taken the Befriender Ministry Leadership Training. If you have questions about the program prior to the informational meeting, just chat with one of them.
